F-5E
is the single seat version of F-5 Tiger II light supersonic jet. The plane was utilized by various Air Forces around the World for decades. F-5 in many of its versions is still actively used as an Aggressor/Adversary aircraft. Due to its superb flight characteristics, F-5E is one of the main adversary aircraft flown by the US military. Examples are flown in private hands as well, but Tiger II is most active specifically as an Aggressor platform. As of last couple of years, F-5s are being retrofitted with glass cockpits with several more years of expected service. Despite its age, F-5 proved to be one of the best aviation achievements of the US aircraft industry.
VFC-13
squadron is called “Saints” and the F-5E in this 32nd scale DN Models‘ sheet represents one of their Aggressor camo schemes. It is a desert camouflage, similar to MiG-21 and MiG-23 desert paint schemes used in Soviet-Afghan War. Some variations of this F-5 camo can be found in the same unit /VFC-13/, in appearance very close one to another. Some of the planes are being repainted often, depending on their condition. Latter one varies, especially in the harsh climates where the planes are flown. In order to achieve maximum realism, it is best to follow the reference material of the specific airplane that you want to build. The paint mask set features all the markings visible on the picture of this product.
