Zoukei-Mura F-4E Late 1/48

Zoukei-Mura F-4 is the ultimate line of quarter scale Phantom kits thus far released. There are decent competitors, like Academy, Tamiya and MENG, but in one form or another, Zoukei’s kits are superior and are preferred to the alternative. With that said, Tamiya and Academy does not offer long nose Phantoms, while MENG does not offer the other option. That will probably change with time, but still, ZM is the definite king.

The Japanese model maker released an early E version, after which it offered several Japanese variants of the E, as well as Wild Weasel options. But that doesn’t change the fact that the most anticipated Phantom of their line was yet to be shown to public. And that is the Late E variant. It was considered the ultimate F-4 and in real life, the jet is still in service with couple Air Forces, with some years left ahead of its life.

Zoukei-Mura F-4E Late comes couple years after their Wild Weasel and we have no doubt that the wait will be worth it. Not surprisingly, the first packing will feature US markings, however, the possibilities are numerous with this variant. Starting with Israeli F-4s, going through AUP upgraded version used by Greece and including one of the meanest looking F-4s – Turkey’s Terminator 2020. All of these mentioned are /technically/ based on this latest tooling we are talking about and present wide dance floor for Zoukei-Mura to improvise at.

Those variations are involving rework of the cockpits, sensors and of course – packings, but they are definitely ones that shouldn’t be missed by any serious model manufacturer. With that said, we are expecting to see IAF F-4E Phantom from MENG, because they on their hand love to offer Israeli weapons, but that can only bring fuel to the Phantom fire that is burning last decade or so. In other words, it is unlikely that ZM will miss that chance too. It is simply too good of a chance for expansion.

All in all, this release is long awaited and will be warmly welcomed. We have no doubts that it will explored deeper than just one option from ZM and that by itself might spark some envy within other model makers’ ranks, who will probably put their own E variants out as well. And with that Zoukei-Mura are nearing their full circle, with only the recce Phantoms left to be explored, which – we also have no doubts will happen sooner rather than later.
