Jagdpanzer 38t is a tank destroyer that was used in the last two years of WWII by the Germans. Being significantly smaller than most of what Wehrmacht had to show at the time, it proved to be a cheap and easy-to-make weapon for the tired German army. With many remaining preserved to this day and alongside its nice appearance, the Hetzer – at it was called – remains one of the favorite objects for WWII modelers. Despite its modest size, it is a great canvas for various camouflage and weathering interpretations, which makes it a winner. In 35th scale, we would argue that it is a must for any WWII tank modeler.
Thus far, we had few 35th scale Hetzer options available. Tamiya, Dragon and Eduard among the best options. However, for quite some time, with plenty new releases of Panzer IVs, StuG IIIs and more than enough Tigers, we were kinda surprised to hear that Takom is about to release a new family of Jagdpanzer 38t on the market. Even more interesting is the fact, that the respected model maker decided to hit us hard, with not one, but three options at the same time. Early, Mid- and Late production Hetzers were quickly announced and shortly afterwards, the boxarts of them appeared on the web. A blitzkrieg of a sort.
The interesting thing about those three releases is the Full Interior that Takom decided to feature in their kits. With its small size, Hetzer is a vehicle that will present a serious challenge in 35th scale, when it comes down to its internal organs. Nevertheless, this makes this release a strong affirmation that Takom are one very serious player on the market, challenging both the modelers and the competitors alike. Unlike the past decade, interior nowadays seems to be the norm. No matter the size. Besides that, going head to head against Tamiya and DML… well, we know.
From the pictures it is visible that metal gun barrel is included, link and length tracks, photo-etch parts, engine, transmission and superb interior details + ammo can be found too. That, combined with the experience and ease-of-use of Takom’s products is definitely a success-guaranteed formula, which can hardly be beaten. All that combined – made the news for upcoming Takom trio even more exciting!
Jagdpanzer 38t from Takom will appear amidst a wave of new releases from the company, including the mighty AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter in that same scale. Even though different subjects, both are quite a signal to the community about the perspective that the management of Takom has for their company. Even more interesting is the fact that Takom already dared to thread at the 16th scale arena and quite successfully at that too. We can hardly believe that it will stop here, with those three full-interiored newcomers.
With the size of Hetzer, we can hope that this is among their future surprises in large scale, but not necessarily. That is only our wishful thinking. Although Jagdpanzer 38t is modest in appearance in 35th, we can definitely confirm that its sexy and sleek looks compensate for any lack of tonnage, width or height. After all, bigger is not always better, and that is why we are more than excited to welcome this new release with gratitude and respect.
Thank you Takom!
